Banks suspend operations at several branches following protest violence

TIRANA, Oct 15 /ATA/ The escalation of protests in the capital’s centre has prompted emergency measures in the banking sector. Six banks have announced the temporary closure of several branches following damage to financial institutions during protests in Tirana yesterday, directing customers to use digital banking services.
Raiffeisen, OTP, Tirana Bank, Union Bank, Intesa Sanpaolo and ProCredit Bank said they were monitoring the latest developments and working to ensure that banking services continued without disruption and under full security measures.

The banks also said that the safety of employees and customers remained a priority, adding that the suspension of operations at some branches was intended to ensure services could be provided in safe conditions.
The temporary suspension of in-branch services could create difficulties for customers requiring face-to-face banking, as well as for businesses that rely on daily payments and financial transactions.

Businesses along streets affected by the protests over the past three days have also temporarily closed, as they await an improvement in the situation, with many having suffered extensive damage.
