PM Rama: Four airports to be operational in Albania by end of third term in office, new tourist port and airport in Vlore

TIRANA, March 11 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated Thursday that his government’s ambition is that Albania has four international airports by end of third term in office.

Addressing a meeting with the Socialist candidates to represent Vlora region in the April 25 parliamentary elections, the government head also said that a new commercial seaport and a tourist port will be built in the coastal city in the coming years.

“Vlore is about to enter the implementation phase of a series of major development projects, including a new commercial seaport in the Triport area, which will ultimately put an end to the chaotic and indecent situation. Likewise, the new tourist port will also attract elite tourism with luxurious yachts and consumers of a completely different kind,” PM Rama said, adding that new port will boost Vlora’s local economy, because tourist ships and yachts will stay in Vlore and will help consumption even after the tourist season.

According to the government head, “more than 1500 crew members of the cruise ships and yachts will be staying in Vlore, which would mean added value to the economy. On the other hand, the ongoing investment projects will be complemented with the Vlore international airport.”

“The winning company has been announced and the terms of the contracts are currently being negotiated and, as the law stipulates, the final contract will be signed within three weeks and work will kick off immediately,” he said.

According to PM Rama, the issue of Vlore international airport has been finally tackled following long delays and the project’s suspension caused by the pandemic.

PM Rama also announced that tender for construction of Sarande airport will be launched soon.
