TIRANA, Feb 15 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/ Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, attended the unveiling of the Declaration Against Arbitrary Detentions in State-to-State Relations at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.
In her remarks, Minister Xhaçka reiterated Albania’s support for this declaration describing as unacceptable the increase in the number of arbitrary detentions of innocent foreign nationals by governments which, according to her, want to use them as negotiating tools in relations with the governments and countries of origin of detainees.
“We should send out a clear message to all those who see the arbitrary detention of foreign nationals as a tool for diplomatic gain, that such actions come at a price. And this price is not insignificant, but a stain on the reputation and image of those involved in such actions,” she said.
Xhaçka congratulated Canada on this initiative, calling the declaration an important step forward in the fight against arbitrary detentions in state- to- state relations.
