2010 flood situation avoided/ Strategic investments in key points

TIRANA, Jan.15 /ATA/-The Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that, we have multiplied investments compared to previous years and also invested strategically, preventing past flood history.

In the weekly press conference on the flood situation, the Prime Minister Rama said that, “It has been invested strategically and not tactically-politically as in the previous years. We have made strategic investments, we have focused on key points regardless of what electoral impact these interventions may have had. On the other hand, we have set the priority investments, then the secondary ones and so on.”

“This year our country was battered by ‘apocalyptic’ rainfall comparable to 2010 and there has been a very critical moment from the point of view of rainfall. In 2010, thousands of people were evacuated from the city of Shkodra, where boat taxi service was established for several weeks. It is not a metaphor, it reminds us whenever we make assessments,” the Prime Minister Rama said.

The Prime Minister brought to attention the investment in rehabilitation of Gjanica River in Fier, which avoided floods in the city.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister emphasized that, families affected by floods will be compensated according to the law, but the number of damaged houses is quite minimal and it is up to the municipalities to make the assessments.

“Heavy rains caused floods in Oboti area, but the Ministry of Agriculture provided food for the livestock. Most of the flooded lands have turned into unproductive soils. There is no significant damage, but any damage that should be legally compensated will be compensated. We have have also provided compensation for damages of the 2010 floods,” the Prime Minister Rama said.
