December 2020/ 7200 tons of tangerines exported to 5 countries

TIRANA, Jan 8 /ATA/ In the group of citrus fruit, “Made in Albania” tangerines rank second after vegetables as the best performing exports during December 2020.

The Exports Center in Vlora reports to ATA that, “7200 tons of tangerines were exported to 5 countries during December 2020, 12% more than in the same period of 2019.”

Regional markets are already the main export destinations of Albanian tangerines, with Kosovo, North Macedonia on the lead but also a growing demand in the market of Serbia, Ukraine and the Czech Republic.

According to Vlora’s Export Center, the export of tangerines recorded the largest daily quantity in the middle of December 2020, with about 450 tons, while the average daily exports recorded 280 tons of tangerines.

Albania has a long-standing tradition in the production of citrus fruit (oranges, lemons and tangerines), concentrated mainly in the southern coastal areas of the country.

In recent years, the production of tangerines has increased significantly. They make up about 2/3 of the total of citrus production in Albania. From less than 100 ha of land planted with tangerines in 2005, with a yield of about 1000 tons, today the area planted with tangerines has increased to 900 ha and production has reached over 30 thousand tons per year.
