Affected areas by floods/ Çako: Intensive work underway; municipalities should react with a concrete plan of measures

TIRANA, January 8 /ATA/ Director of the National Agency for Civil Protection Haki Çako said today from Shkodra that intensive work is being done in the areas affected by floods due to rain and called on municipalities to intensify work and draft a concrete plan of measures.

In a statement to the media, Çako said that, “During the last 2-3 days, the country has been covered by a considerable intensity of rainfall”.

“The most affected areas are Tirana, Durres, Shkodra, Fieri, Lushnja, Vlora, etc., there have been problems in other regions where there has been snow”, said Çako.

Director Çako said that, “There is currently an increased presence of water on agricultural land, in areas that are exposed or along rivers. 2 or 3 families were evacuated in Lezha and Shkodra, which were affected by the flood. The Oblika area is the most exposed to the presence of water. We generally do not have homes that need to be evacuated. ”

Çako said that there have been projects in the construction of embankments, in cleaning or in the elimination of various obstacles and in different collectors or in the cleaning of canals.

“Rivers often become the cause of flooding. The reform launched has taken this into account. There have been projects in the construction of embankments, in cleaning or in the elimination of various obstacles and in different collectors or in the cleaning of canals. About 7500 km of canals have been cleaned only last year, creating more opportunities for discharges of water”, said Çako. /k.s/j.p/p.s./
