Changes to Electoral Code/SP proposal on coalitions with unique list approved

TIRANA, October 2 /ATA/ The Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs and Public Administration reviewed and approved today the amendments to the Electoral Code.

The committee initially approved the SP’s proposal for single-list coalitions, allowing several parties to compete in a single-list coalition.

Regarding this article, the co-chair of the Special Commission for Electoral Reform, representative of the Socialist Party in the Political Council, Damian Gjiknuri said that, “Coalitions are treated as everywhere in every other European country. The political parties make an agreement to run alongside the same conditions. Let’s not forget the fact that we have opened the lists, too.”

The Committee then approved that the party chairman can be registered simultaneously in 4 constituencies.

But, the Committee rejected the request of MP Myslym Murrizi for depoliticization of the counting teams.

The committee also approved the proposal for an electoral threshold of 1% of the vote.

A part of the Parliamentary opposition boycotted the meeting of the Law Committee./gj.mima//a.a//r.e/p.s./
