TIRANA, Sept 25 /ATA/ – Work to construct Llogara tunnel near Albania’s south-western coastline will begin in the first months of 2021, Prime Minister Edi Rama said as he unveiled the project on construction of a new park around the National Museum of Independence in the southern coastal city of Vlora on Friday.
“The project competition process for construction of the Llogara tunnel has completed and we are convinced that work to build it will kick off in the first half of 2021. We will soon begin the project across Radhime, where the Vlora bypass road descends, whose construction is progressing rapidly after the expropriation process completed and the design was remade,” PM Rama said.
We – PM Rama went on saying – will make Vlora one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean, where a longer tourism season becomes a reality with more services, tourist attractions and therefore more revenue from tourism sector.
“We have previously estimated the economic impact of the Lungomare, the Waterfront Promenade, and its impact is incredible, except the social impact on the city’s life thanks to that project. All these projects are not a facelift, neither projects to ease traffic, sightseeing and stuff like this, but they are translated into growth and more revenues,” Rama said.
The 6-km long Llogara tunnel will shorten the driving time between Orikum and Palasa to just ten minutes from 55 minutes, which will result in an increase in the number of tourists in the area.
