Basha reacts against constitutional changes saying citizens are not getting open lists

TIRANA, July 30 /ATA/ Today, the Assembly of Albania showed again that it is not guided by the interests of the citizens, but is only an apprentice of the political interests of PM Edi Rama.

Chairman of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha made the statement after the vote in the Assembly of the constitutional changes.

“The interest of the citizens today was trampled on by the outgoing prime minister and his subordinates. Citizens are not being given open lists. Edi Rama rejected our proposal to open the lists 100% and not to affect the coalitions,” Basha underlined.

The DP leader said that, “Never before in our 30-year history of pluralism, the Constitution has not been changed unilaterally and without the consensus of the opposition.”Never before in these 30 years have the rules for the electoral process been set by the ruling party alone.”

“Unilateral changes without consensus with the opposition and in violation of the agreement of June 5 and January 14 are unacceptable, are not mandatory for the opposition and even less for the citizens.”Today’s act cannot stop the change, it simply showed in front of the Albanians and our partners once again the face of the autocrat terrified by the punishment that awaits him”, – underlined Basha.

Basha said that, “We will continue the battle to defend democracy, to defend the free vote, and to win the elections together with the Albanians. “Nothing can stop the popular coalition against Rama,” Basha said./p.s./
