Opposition: Constitutional amendments destroy Jan 14 and June 5 agreements

TIRANA, July  22 /ATA/ –By  I. Vata/ – The united opposition reacted Wednesday to the statements by Prime Minister, who said that Parliament is set to vote on the changes to the Constitution on July 30.

The united opposition reiterated that the unilateral constitutional amendments undo both the political agreements for the elections, that of January 14 and that of June 5.

In a press statement, the opposition said that “the theory of the accomplished fact runs counter to the principles of political dialogue, which has been undermined given that one party has undertaken an unilateral action that undoes the June 5 agreement. Adoption of the unilateral constitutional amendments undoes both the political agreements for the elections, that of January 14 and that of June 5.”

“Edi Rama’s move towards the destruction of political agreements is a dangerous action with unpredictable consequences for the country’s stability. The Political Council was established with the investment of the strategic partners US-EU-Great Britain-OSCE, as a forum for political dialogue between all political parties in the country, to implement the Electoral Reform. Edi Rama is destroying it, unilaterally. Edi Rama is making the change of the basic elements of the electoral system an accomplished fact by removing the pre-election coalitions as an electoral subject, changing the concept of the administrative division of electoral zones and electoral organization, introducing new elements in the compilation of lists and the voting process, changing the rules of electoral administration,” statement read.
