COVID-19/ Tomini: No cap on testing, for any confirmed positive case, close contacts tested

TIRANA, May 9 /ATA/ Eugena Tomini, the Head of Surveillance and Epidemic Intelligence Service at the Institute of Public Health, stated on Saturday that for any confirmed case of COVID-19, the close contacts have been tested.

In a televised interview, Tomini said that there was no cap on testing, the situation of testing depended on the clusters and intensity of cases showing up.

“Each suspected case has been tested, as well as the risk contacts in the narrow or broad-based circle. From March 9 to May 7, the toll-free number 127 has received 22,200 calls with partial symptoms, about 82,900 calls with mild symptoms that have been referred to the University Hospital Center to get the swab performed, ”she said.

Regarding serological tests, Tomini said that “440 people have undergone the antibody testing.”
“11.2% of them turned out to be ill, but the level of risk also depends on the profession or contact that these individuals have had with COVID-19. The staff at infectious diseases ward are more susceptible to COVID. Such tests will be performed on the first 100 people who tested positive to continue with the Police force,” Tomini said.

Meanwhile, she said that healthcare system will return to normal once this pandemic is over.
According to her, lockdown and social distancing have paid off, while failure to comply with them have led to the COVID-19 infection clusters building up.
