TIRANA, February 19 /ATA/-The Committee for Health Protection from Tobacco Products approved the new images to appear on cigarette packs.
During the meeting held today, under the chair of Minister Ogerta Manastirliu, the Committee approved the images to be used on cigarette packs in Albania.
“We proposed to use the same images like in the European Union, but it was not possible because it is only allowed for member states. After some search we got approval from Australia and Canada to use the warning photos on the cigarette packs. Combined text and picture warnings will occupy 65% of the cigarette pack front page as well as the back page, implementing Directive 2014/40 EU ”, said Manastirliu.
The new images will be put on cigarette packs two years after approval, leaving the business time to make the appropriate changes.
The Ministry of Health will follow implementation of the new law along with all affiliated institutions charged by law.
In addition, a communication campaign on the harm caused by smoking will be launched in cooperation with the Audiovisual Media Authority./p.s./
