Manja: No amnesty for criminal offenses under investigation, but only for convicts

TIRANA, Jan 23/ATA/- Chairman of the Committee on Legal Affairs, Public Administration and Human Right, Ulsi Manja stated Thursday that, the new draft law on Amnesty is an initiative of the Albanian government, but the amnesty is a political act, an act of will of the Albanian Parliament, while the purpose of this amnesty is to exclude from serving the sentence all persons who meet the legal requirements.

In his remarks, Manja emphasized that, there will be no amnesty for the criminal offenses under investigation, but only for the convicts.

Chairman of the Committee on Legal Affairs, Public Administration and Human Right, Manja added that, the main focus of this amnesty, as previously announced by the Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Law Commission, has been on women, girls and minors.

During the meeting Manja also emphasized that all those judges and prosecutors who violate the law will be inspected by the High Justice Inspectorate and held accountable before the law.

“Justice Reform goal is to clean the justice system of corrupt judges and prosecutors. Certainly, this is a delicate phase of the Justice Reform and many judges and prosecutors who are due to undergo vetting have shown signs of legal abuse, ”Manja said.//a.i/
