PM Rama in Italy: Donors’ conference due to be a success; reconstruction bill estimated at around € 1 billion

TIRANA, January 23/ATA/- Prime Minister Edi Rama said today in Italy that, “The final sum of money necessary to fund the Reconstruction Program has not yet been released, but based on the considerable data gathered so far it is estimated at around € 1 billion. We shall do our best with the help of the great friends of Albania, where Italy is certainly one of the closest friends, for the Donors’ Conference to be a success, while we are very clear that to meet all the extraordinary needs, it will not be sufficient”.

PM Rama gave a video message from Rome, following important meetings with Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio on Reconstruction, ahead of the Donors’ Conference for Albania, to be held on February 17 in Brussels.

Prime Minister Rama said that, “We are well prepared to continue with other courageous actions in financial terms, taking advantage of the high macroeconomic stability we have guaranteed in these years of reforms, as well as combining some funding schemes for Reconstruction, – always without interruption or reduction of other social protection development programs. ”

“I am very grateful and encouraged by the special attention and full readiness of Prime Minister Conte and Foreign Minister Di Maio. We shall meet with Chancellor Merkel early next week”, – underlined PM Rama.

The head of government said that, “The reconstruction plans are moving fast and within the projected calendar we shall be able to start building of the first individual houses by spring and to complete  rural housing within 2020. There is also work underway on reconstruction plans in the affected cities within the perimeter, where interventions will be massive and the design process naturally a little longer. But, we are within the set deadlines and in the meantime it is clear to everyone and I want to reiterate that we shall continue to pay the rent for the house where the affected people are settled, until we return them to the new apartments. ”

Likewise, PM Rama said, we are within the deadline with the ambitious calendar of reconstruction of all schools in the affected area, as well as the hospital of Laç and 5 medical centers to be built from scratch.

“I know very well that for the affected people every day is long and the waiting time is tiresome, but please may everyone understand the need for patience while having full confidence that no one will be left alone,” concluded PM Rama./k.s/j.p/p.s./
