Cakaj receives Swedish counterpart on Albania’s integration

TIRANA, November 19 /ATA/ – Albania’s Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj received today the Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde in Tirana.

During the meeting, they discussed on the excellent dynamics of bilateral relations, Albania’s progress in the European integration process, developments in the Balkan region and security challenges.

The talks also focused on strengthening of political dialogue, not only between our countries, but also on the situation in the Western Balkans and beyond, where both Albania and Sweden play an active role.

Minister Cakaj praised Sweden’s role of support in the EU enlargement process in general and Albania’s efforts, in particular, in this process.

They shared the view that the EU integration process remains the most fundamental process for Albania and Albanians, as it provides the necessary framework for reforms towards Albania’s stability and sustainable political and economic development.

However, Minister Cakaj also focused on the EU’s approach towards Kosovo and its citizens regarding visa liberalization.

“I also underlined the EU’s unfair approach towards the citizens of Kosovo. Kosovo has met all the technical requirements and deserves to move freely without a visa regime in the European Union space, ” said Cakaj.

Albania’s chairmanship of the OSCE in 2020 was another topic of discussions being a major objective of Albanian foreign policy. Minister Cakaj assured the Swedish support for the work done so far./gj.mima/ /a.g/p.s./
