TIRANA, Nov 5 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/ “The majority should come to terms with the fact that electoral reform should be consensual and inclusive to pave the way for trustworthy elections,” former Co-Chair of Committee on Electoral Reform, Oerd Bylykbashi, stated after the parallel roundtable of opposition with the Committee of Electoral Reform.
Bylykbashi said that the task force of the opposition experts gathered on Tuesday in the follow-up to the previous discussion, a clearly laid down plan on priorities of electoral reform.
We stand for a genuine and comprehensive electoral reform. Today we gathered and discussed not only issues of political will which require direct will for enactment of existing law.
OSCE/ODIHR is clear, Electoral Code, the legislation is adequate to hold democratic elections, it is clear that the govt. has deliberately failed in its enactment and in turn the right mechanisms need to be established to pave the way to it. We are clear at this point, an interim, caretaker govt. guarantees free and fair elections, including the punishment of those breaching the Electoral Code, stealing or buying votes,” he said.
