TIRANA, Oct 29 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/- Chairman of Central Election Commission, Klement Zguri, received Tuesday Robert Benjamin, NDI Director for Central and Eastern Europe, who was accompanied by Ana Kovacevic, resident director, NDI Albania and Vildan Plepi, NDI advisor.
The meeting focused on cooperation and so far achievements thanks to technical expertise that NDI has provided to CEC in financing of political parties in our country as well as continuation of cooperation in the months to come.
The CEC chairman expressed gratitude to Benjamin for the support that the American Democratic Institute in cooperation with other partners, the British Embassy and USAID, has provided to Central Election Commission.
Likewise, Zguri said that the good work done by CEC with regard to funding was also positively assessed in the OSCE / ODIHR Report, which is credited to the assistance that NDI and partners gave to Commission.
Zguri went on saying that the transparency of political parties’ financing is of particular importance to improvement of electoral process, so in the event of any changes to the Electoral Code regarding funding, NDI support would be essential for fulfillment and successful accomplishment of the tasks that
CEC will have in this regard.
For his part, regional NDI director, Robert Benjamin, expressed his satisfaction with the so far achievements and cooperation adding that issues of political parties’ financing are essential for increase of public support in electoral processes, therefore support for CEC will continue.
