Last week, American filmmaker and former journalist Lara Stolman worked with students from the
Investigative Journalism Lab and the staff of the 31 Minutes TV program on storytelling. Lara specializes in long-form programming and worked for NBC, BBC, HBO, and MTV and other major media outlets. Using examples of her own work as a journalist and a producer, she talked about the importance of storytelling, its impact on society, and how it can produce change. “Journalism for me is about understanding people and their motivations,” Lara told the groups she worked with.
