Beginning from January 2020, elevators in Albania’s apartment blocks will have CE marking

TIRANA, October 3 /ATA/- Beginning from January 2020, the elevators that will be installed in the apartment blocks throughout the country should have the CE marking, a certification by the European Union authorities, so that the citizens feel safe in their use and possible incidents are avoided.

The government of Albania took this decision yesterday in the wake of the situation created after the September 21 earthquake.

The chief inspector at the State Market Inspectorate Lavdërim Sahitaj explained during an interview at the studio of the Albanian Telegraph Agency the plan of compulsory measures for the companies involved in the installation of elevators, as well as building managers and local units.

According to Sahitaj, the government’s decision concerns two fundamental changes.

“As we know, after the 1990s the elevators are not of a CE marking standard, they are brought from various countries around the world and some of them do not meet these standards. As for the rest, from January 2020 and on, these elevators will not be allowed to be installed without the CE marking. In short, all building managers, the local units, the installation companies should work closely with each other to enable this registration of elevators installed during the last 30 years within the next year”.

According to the plan, controls and reassessments will start from Tirana and Durres. Sahitaj argued that this decision comes also in the context of approximation of Albanian legislation with that of the EU./a.g/p.s./
