U.S. commits additional $920,00 in support of law enforcement programming

TIRANA, October /ATA/ – The United States Embassy in Tirana on Thursday announced that U.S. has recently committed an additional $920,000 in support of Albania’s law enforcement programming, underlining that an improved prison system is essential to Albania’s continued efforts to strengthen rule of law and combat organized crime.

“An improved prison system is essential to Albania’s continued efforts to strengthen rule of law and combat organized crime. On October 1, the United States committed an additional $920,000 in support of Albania’s law enforcement programming, increasing the total U.S. support to $5.1 million,” U.S. Embassy said.

The additional assistance – according to the U.S. Embassy – “will contribute to the Ministry of Justice’s 2019 Prison Action Plan, targeting reforms within the General Prison Directorate to further professionalize the corrections system, enhance public safety, and implement robust measures against organized criminal activity.”

“The United States remains staunchly committed to supporting those efforts and helping Albania forge a strong criminal justice system that is effective and transparent,” U.S. Embassy said in a press release.
