Assembly convenes in special session devoted to constituents

TIRANA, Sept 30 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Albanian Assembly convened Monday for a special session as part of a week-long activities and meetings devoted exclusively to constituents.

In his opening remarks, the Assembly Speaker Gramoz Ruçi said that “Whole focus on the people” is the session’s motto.

“Following a week featuring countless meetings with their constituents, lawmakers are given the opportunity to raise the problems concerning people, and that’s why this session is extremely important. This move would help to enhance transparency on the Assembly’s official website. The week devoted to constituents is a chance for more accountability,” Ruçi said.

Last week, lawmakers visited their constituencies to attend meetings and events with their voters as part of the first such initiative devoted to constituents. The Assembly’s regulation has been amended, forcing MPs to spend fourth week of the month in meetings with residents in the constituencies they have been elected.

At today’s four-hour special session, lawmakers will raise a series of problems they have found during meetings with voters in their constituencies.
