TIRANA, Sept 22 /ATA/-By Z.Tosku/ – The aftershocks of the magnitude 5.8 earthquake near the port city of Durres, central Albania, are declining gradually, seismologist Rexhep Koçi affirmed in an interview with the Albanian Telegraphic Agency on Sunday.
“The situation is improving since the yesterday’s earthquake measuring 5.8 Richter scale and the aftershocks are gradually declining,” he explained.
“There are several localized aftershocks both at sea and mainland with their epicenter in Durres and north of Cape of Rodon, sending waves of lower magnitude towards Tirana,” Koçi said.
According to him, the yesterday’s earthquake was moderate and not a powerful one.
“For an earthquake to be called a powerful one it should measure a magnitude of six or more. However, Albania had not experienced a seismic event of this size since 1979,” he added.
