Cakaj at Integration Commission: Albania, ready to begin negotiations with EU

TIRANA, September 17/ATA/ Albania has met all the conditions for opening of EU accession negotiations.

Albania’s Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj was today in a hearing session at the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration, where he stressed that Albania has met the necessary conditions for opening negotiations.

Cakaj emphasized that, “The European Commission appreciates the removal of 88 judges and prosecutors through the Vetting process. Last year the Council’s decision was dictated by the electoral climate. This year it is essential for Albania to enable the Council’s recommendations to be transformed into political will. The Commission appreciates the establishment of the new organs of justice within the deadlines. The other achievements are presented in the progress report,”said Cakaj.

“I say, Albania is ready to start the negotiation process once the Council decides to open negotiations,” he said./gj.mima/j.p/p.s./
