Works for building Vlora airport due to begin in spring

TIRANA, September 16/ATA/- During presentation of the project for construction of the new Vlora International Airport, Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that the construction work is expected to begin within spring 2020.

The prime minister also pointed to the fact that one of the delays for investment in airports was the agreement of years ago with Tirana Airport concessionaire.

“We held two years of negotiations to remove the monopoly and the condition that no other airport could be built without the permission of Tirana Airport Concessionaire. This prevented the construction of any other airport. We held two years of negotiations with the concessionaire and we have succeeded,” said PM Rama.

He added that Vlora airport will be a 3.2 km runway, while Tirana has 2.7 kilometers and will enable large-capacity landing not only for passenger planes, but also for cargo planes. This will also influence in cutting of the high ticket prices.

The prime minister  added that, “By all accounts, every lek invested in an airport is multiplied by 27 from the airport activity and if the airport opens right from the very beginning 1000 jobs then employment is estimated to increase and all the economic activity of the airport will increase up to 27-fold. Make your own accounts, but remember we need specialists. “/a.g/p.s./
