MIE: No decision made on smart electricity meters

TIRANA, Sept. 9 /ATA/ – The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy rejected Monday the media reports suggesting that the government had decided to award a public-private partnership contract on installation of smart electricity meters.

The Ministry of Infrastructure said in a press statement that no decision has been made for installation of new smart meters through a public-private partnership contract.

The Ministry responded to the media reports by providing explanations over “Power Metering Strategy and Energy Sector Standard Policies.”

“The Project Management Unit of the Power Recovery Project, funded by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), has recently launched call for expressions of interest in Technical Assistance to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, Power Distribution Operator, Power Transmission System Operator on the preparation of the Metering Strategy and Standard Policies on Electricity Metering in the Albanian Energy Sector,” the Ministry said in its press statement.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy clarified that it is all about an international consultancy service that will draft the power metering strategy and no decision has been made on installation of smart electricity meters through a public-private partnership as the media suggest.
