Crackdown on informality/ Brahimaj: Controls based on analysis of sectors slowing down VAT declaration

TIRANA, Sept 6 /ATA/ – “The concentration of anti-informality action in the field of hydrocarbons came after this sector despite the revenue growth has shown a significant drop in the number of VAT declarations,” Director General of Tax Administration, Delina Brahimaj, said in a televised interview.

“The action started after reports about some has stations that operated in violation of the rules, using manual mode instead of automatic ones. A total of 703 dawn raids have been carried out in gas stations countrywide. During August we have conducted in-depth analyses in this sector, ” said Brahimaj.

Brahimaj said: “Informality has affected the Albanian economy for many years now. We wanted to focus on high risk subjects. We have found 40% of subjects in violation of rules but this is not tantamount to 40% informality. ”

She added: “We have done an analysis of those sectors that slow down the VAT declaration. The hydrocarbons sector has seen an increase in exports, leading to increased revenues. Drop in declarations have prompted us to launch the dawn raids. ”
