TIRANA, Sept. 4 /ATA/ – Albanian citizens have reported as many as 1233 suspected cases of informality since the newest smartphone app called “Stop Informality” was launched by the government on August 19 as part of a country-wide anti-informality operation.
Presenting the results of the anti-informality operation, the Minister of Finance and Economy Anila Denaj said in a press conference on Wednesday that the inspection teams from the tax administration had verified some 616 suspected cases by rigorously enforcing the tax legislation.
According to her, “as many as 12,543 citizens have downloaded the smartphone app Stop Informality to date. She urged citizens and employees to report any suspected case of abuse and violation via this application.
“The inspection actions have found that around 40 to 47% of businesses violate the tax legislation. We think that the tendency to identify violations is positive, but not sufficient. Likewise, the administrative and penal measures fail to prevent such actions and that’s why we are working to finalize the changes to the legal package,” Finance and Economy Minister said.
