TIRANA, August 6/ATA/- On September 9 of the current year, the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP) will stage a competition for granting of two more authorizations to mobile operators for the rights of use in the 800 MHz frequency band.
Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku approved opening of the tender, while it has been officially announced that the tender will be conducted through international open procedure and AKEP has also made public the announcement for the tender.
This process aims to promote investment in development of fast internet to improve digital infrastructure in the country as well as to provide better quality services to citizens throughout the country. AKEP will open the competition for bids submitted by interested companies on September 9, 2019.
On the other hand, the successful implementation of this process for granting 2 rights of use in the 800 MHz frequency band, intends to provide a substantial income that will go to the state budget.
The minimum acceptable value for bidders to grant an individual authorization for the use of frequencies in the 800 MHz band shall be not less than EUR 7.44 million and bidders who bid at a price lower than this value shall not be eligible.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, the use of the Internet in Albania continues to grow and internet communication by mobile networks has increased by 15 times in the last five years.
The total number of mobile broadband internet users for 2018 was about 2.6 million, while the number of active users, internet usage in the last three months, was about 1.8 million./z.tosku/p.s./
