TIRANA, July 28 /ATA/ – The Minister of Finance and Economy Anila Denaj inspected Sunday a series of private hospitality sector businesses operating along Currila-Golem coast in the central city of Durres as part of an ongoing country-wide anti-informality action.
Denaj said that as many as 100 private businesses have been inspected and a number of them have been blocked by the tax inspectors.
“Around 100 private businesses operating along coastline stretching from Currila to Golem have been inspected. We have discovered tax avoiding practices, mainly by owners of four-star hotels, and a number of them have been blocked. Many other businesses have been advised to self-adjust and abide by the rules,” the Finance and Economy Minister said.
Minister Denaj urged all businesses to respect the law and issue the tax coupons.
“A number of hotels have been blocked as inspectors have found out illicit practices, mainly committed by four-star hotels, including failure to issue coupons, display price lists. They should understand that the Albanian government is making tremendous efforts to promote tourism growth. The government has cut VAT rate on this kind of hotels and tourism resorts to six percent only. We won’t allow businesses to involve in tax avoiding practices,” Denaj said, urging operators to benefit from the fiscal incentives and reduced tax rates, but also respect the law by issuing tax coupons.
The tax administration and investigation teams continue their inspection actions, while calling on private businesses operating in hospitality and leisure industry to self-adjust and respect the rules in order to increase revenues and reduce informality.
