Sailing school to open for first time in Albania

TIRANA, July 6 /ATA/ – Minister of Tourism and Environment Blendi Klosi said in his remarks at an event in the southern coastal city of Vlora that first sailing school in Albania will open soon as part of an initiative aimed at providing professional practical sailing training on the water and education and training of new generation in the maritime sector.

“In the framework of a new government policy on developing the maritime sector, a strategy is being developed in collaboration with mayors of the coastal cities to further boost the maritime sector as a great tourism potential. Today is a beautiful day as 24 sailboats are taking part in a sailing race from the port of Vlora to the port of Orikum. The event is part of a series of activities designed to promote tourism. For the first time, a sailing school will open in Albania to educate a new generation of seafarers and maritime sector professionals who will earn living by sea. A new strategy on the maritime sector is a top priority for our Ministry,” Klosi said in his remarks.

In order to advance such a new initiative – according to the Minister of Tourism and Environment – new fiscal policies will be adopted by the government to attract more investments in the country’s ports and the maritime sector.

“We are working with the Vlora-based Italian Consulate to include the project as part of the Italian Cooperation, which will provide support and expertise in efforts to develop the maritime tourism,” he added.
