TIRANA, May 30 /ATA/ PM Edi Rama pointed out that the positive recommendation for opening of EU accession negotiations with Albania is based on evidence and is not a political decision. However, the decision to formalize the opening of accession negotiations taken by the European Council contains the political subjectivity of each country represented in it.
Invited to a televised interview, PM Rama cited two different statements by two German politicians which prove the political subjectivity that should be taken into account in the European Council’s decision.
“German Minister of State for European Affairs says that accession negotiations with Albania should start in June. Another German official says no. The declarations are both political and based on internal dynamics. Even last year we received an unconditional recommendation. The decision-making on opening of talks in Commission is based on facts and evidence. European Council’s assessment contains political subjectivity of each country represented,” Rama said.
According to PM, the odds are in favor of EU opening the accession negotiations with Albania.
“What has happened de facto is that Albania and North Macedonia have entered the screening process not to lose any more time because the two countries were deemed ready to open the accession talks,” Rama said.
