Agreement with Frontex to take effect on May 21

TIRANA, May 17 /ATA/- Minister of Interior Sandër Lleshaj, after an inspection of Kapshtica border crossing point, said that agreement with FRONTEX on joint border management between Albania and EU will take effect on May 21.

“We will soon start a broad-scale operation in conjunction with FRONTEX, which aims to increase capacities of Albanian Police for better management of border crossing points and green border,” Lleshaj said.

“It is the first time that EU signs an agreement of its kind with a non-member country, through which we aim to enhance border control capacities, contain migratory flows, curb traffic and intensify cooperation between State Police and EU specialized agencies, which will assist us with expertise, technical and material support,” Lleshaj said.
