TIRANA, May 8/ATA/- “ During 2018, the files of 463 candidates or officials were verified, as well as 184 requests for rehabilitation and compensation purposes,” said Head of the Albanian Authority on Access to Information on the former State Security Service Gentiana Sula while presenting the work report of the institution during 2018.
She added that the requests have considerably increased and so is activity of the institution.
“To fulfil the legal obligations, the Authority has taken over all documents created by the former State Security, which are hundreds of thousands of files over 2.2 km of documents, where about 70% of them constitute state secret and require administration, storage and circulation according to the law for classified “state secret” information and other by-laws. For this reason, all Authority staff have the legal obligation to be provided with a security certificate, “said Sula.
According to her, during 2019, in context of the vetting law in the State Police and while taking into account the fact that it is an election year, it is expected ten times increase of the work of the Authority./a.g/p.s./
