Non-performing loans, time frame for write-off reduced to 2 years

TIRANA, April 12 /ATA/- Banka e Shqipërisë ka miratuar rregulloren që i detyron bankat të fshijnë nga bilancet kreditë e humbura për një periudhe dy vjeçare nga tre vite që janë aktualisht.
Bank of Albania has adopted a regulation compelling the banks to write non-performing loans off their balance sheets over a time frame of two years compared to the previous three year limit.

Banks under this regulation make reclassification of loans once a month.

The regulation stipulates that the loan should be named lost if the borrower’s financial position has been clearly assessed that it does not meet the conditions for repayment of the principal and interest rates; or when all necessary documentation for determining the financial situation is missing; or the borrower is insolvent / bankrupt, is involved in the liquidation process; or the borrower has died and no one can pay the loan; or the bank has filed with the court bailiff the request for the beginning of the mandatory execution of the collateral, if the loan is secured by collateral, etc.

The writeoff of non-performing loans has been the key tool for reducing bad loans over the last four years. This tool does not impede the collection of loans from bad borrowers.
At the end of 2018 the ratio of non-performing loans was 11.1% meanwhile the surplus of non-performing loads dropped by 20%. /e.xh/j.p/sm/
