TIRANA, April 8 /ATA/ President of the Republic Ilir Meta highlighted on Monday the importance of political dialogue ahead of the decision for beginning of EU accession negotiations, expressing his hope for a rational 180 degree turn as soon as possible.
President Ilir Meta attended the meeting of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Bureau which is taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Meta stressed the importance of OSCE retaining its role as a platform for dialogue, cooperation and security as well as taking further steps to help countries in the region down their path to European and Euro-Atlantic accession.
“At last but not the least, Albania expects the EC’s progress report and the next decision of European Council on opening of EU accession negotiations. I wish I could present a less gloomy political situation of our country, preceded by a well-structured political dialogue and consensus over 5 key areas of reforms.”
“There’s no denying, the President said, that I am not satisfied with the current situation, which I hope will do a rational 180 degree turn, and the sooner the better, also in view of the crucial role that Albania has to play in the Western Balkans as a key factor in strengthening stability and regional security.
