TIRANA, March 15 /ATA/- “The aim of my visit is to express the support of Czech Republic on your pathway to EU,” the Czech Foreign Minister Tomas Petricek said during the meeting with Parliament Speaker Gramoz Ruçi.
“We commend your country’s reforms, progress in justice reform, fight against corruption and organized crime, which make me feel upbeat about a positive decision for Albania in June,” Petricek said.
Appreciating the traditional bilateral relations between the two countries which have been reflected in high-level bilateral visits, Ruçi thanked Petricek for the continued and unsparing support that the Czech Republic has given to our country. “You have been a great advocate in our efforts to open EU accession negotiations and we are very grateful to you and all the Visegrad countries, but also confident that this support will be ongoing,” he said.
The Czech minister voiced his confidence that our country would push ahead with the passage of new electoral law, which is very important law for the country and as such should have the consensus of both majority and opposition.
Regarding the adoption of the electoral law, Ruci stated that the draft law is on the working table of the Assembly. It was prepared with the assistance of OSCE / ODIHR experts and German experts, but could not make it to go through parliament, because there was no consensus with opposition. The majority has extended the hand for co-operation, waiting for proposals from opposition and asserted its will to adopt its proposals. Unfortunately, no proposal has come from their side. ”
Ruçi assured Mr. Petricek said that this law and its approval would be high on his agenda as Parliament Speaker while the process of the opposition MPs entering parliament is ongoing.
The interlocutors praised cooperation between Albania and the Czech Republic, within the framework of international organizations, and expressed the common interest in increasing cooperation in the areas of tourism, agriculture, transport, energy, etc.
