TIRANA, June 21 / ATA /- Reforms of the justice system in the Republic of Albania have been described as “revolutionary” and “courageous” by the Commissioner for Justice, Consumer and Gender Equality in the European Commission, Vera Jourova.
During the meeting with representatives of the European Council’s Working Group on the Western Balkans (COWEB), and EU Commissioner, Vera Jourova in Brussels the Albanian Minister of Justice, Etilda Gjonaj discussed the Albanian Justice Reform, the progress made so far and its implementation achievements.
The Working Party on the Western Balkans Region is responsible for EU relations with the Western Balkans region (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Kosovo working party deals with, the general political and economic development ,the Stabilisation and Association Process, the financial instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA).
Commissioner for Justice, Consumer and Gender Equality in the European Commission, Vera Jourova, described the Albanian government efforts to reform the justice system as impressive, while expressed her conviction that Justice Reform will remain a historic event in Albania’s development.
She assured Minister Gjonaj that Albania will have the support of the European Commission in the implementation of the Justice Reform, as well as encouraged her to fast the pace of reform and progress towards EU accession.
The COWEB meeting planned in October and the visit of the Commissioner for Justice, Consumer and Gender Equality in the European Commission, Vera Jourova will also serve as a good opportunity for signing a cooperation agreement with EUROJUST in order to strengthen the efforts of Albanian authorities in the fight against international organized crime. //a.i/
