TIRANA, June 5 /ATA/ – For more than 20 years, the hotspot of Suçi in Burrel has been one of the most dangerous spots due to unexploded and abandoned stockpiles of ammunition.
The units of EOD (EOD-Explosive Ordnance Disposal), Support Command in the Army, for more than a month have cleared the entire area.
Minister of Defence, Olta Xhaçka, at a meeting with EOD troops on the ground, stated that a surface area of 84 thousand square meters certified clean and safe is restored to the community.
“A surface area of about 84 thousand square meters certified clean and safe is finally restored to the community. Our units have been working here for a month now. It was a pretty unsafe area and posed a high risk due to unexploded ammunition since ‘ 97. Along with the hot spot of Selica, which will be cleared in 5 months’ time, we have brought back to community 17 hot spots, equivalent to thousands of square meters certified clean and safe for civil use. And for 2019, our ambition is to clean the 2 remaining hot spots and certify them clean and safe for public use,” the minister said.
Minister of Defense praised the troops of Armed Forces for their extraordinary efforts in this important mission to the benefit of our community in these areas.
