Libohova is a town and municipality in southern Albania, near Dropull.
The area of Libohova is rightfully considered as one of the richest in all Albania in terms of historical, cultural and gastronomic heritage.
It has been a crossroad of many civilizations that have been inhabited and kept under conquest throughout the country for centuries.
In addition to the wealth of traditions, this area which is laying at the foot of the Bureto mountain, with the Drino valley in the middle and the city of Gjirokastra in front of the foot of the Wide Mountain, has produced through many centuries many events, histories and well-known personalities that have left their mark in the history of the Albanian nation.
The town is famous for its old castle as a substantial fortress with four polygonal corner towers and a curtain wall surrounding a wide courtyard.
The sister of Ali Pasha of Tepelena, Shanica, married one of the most important members of the Libohova family and the castle was the dowry that Ali Pasha presented to her.
Libohova, with some 500 houses, is also a religious center of the progressive Bektashi sect of Muslims and there were several heroes with Dervishes in Dhropul during the years between the two World Wars.
On the Albanian side the largest and richest village is Libohova which is located among the extensive groves and is well watered in contrast to Agyrokastro.
