TIRANA, May 16 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ – The decision of France on opening of accession negotiations with Albania is under examination because it is not merely the issue of Albania and Macedonia which, according to President of France, Emmanuel Macron, deserve highest appreciation for getting to this stage of the process.
At the meeting of SP parliamentary group, PM Edi Rama provided an overview of his visit to Paris and the meeting with President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
PM said that the visit was held in the light of the tough, yet possible diplomatic effort to lobby any EU member country to give our country at the end of June what Albania deserves after a number of reforms and results achieved: the opening of EU accession negotiations.
President Macron, on my request for a face-to-face meeting, made time to extend a reception at Elysee, a meeting which took more time than expected due to a thorough conversation, Rama said.
All I can say with deep conviction is that President Macron was full of praise about Albania, the role of Albania in the region, consistent alignment of our foreign affairs policy with EU, justice reform, vetting, reformation of State Police and excellent cooperation with French Police as well as serious achievements in the fight against crime, Rama said.
Having highlighted Macron’s highest regards, PM Rama added that control of Schengen boundaries as well as the migratory flows dictate an in-depth reflection from France before taking the final decision in June.
I can say without hesitation that I feel more optimistic after the meeting with Macron than before. There are several weeks to go and a lot of work to do as far as the major goal is concerned, however we will do the utmost in our national interest, Rama said.
