TIRANA, May 9/ATA/ -The spiritual gap between Albania and Europe has been narrowing, but it will be closed if Albania opens the EU accession negotiations.
Attending the event under the topic: “Albanian cultural heritage-a value in the European path”, at the Academy of Sciences, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Wednesday that the Albanians have always lived with a dream, hope and ambition of Europe. While the deep spiritual gap between the Albanians and Europe has been narrowing. It is more psychological than a matter of fact because Albania has received support from the EU for opening of the negotiations that would permanently close that gap.
Further on, the prime minister appreciated that the EU is the most visionary and extraordinary project that the people have ever imagined.
PM Rama emphasized that on May 9, 1950 Rober Schuman predicted that Europe would not become at the first shot and it would not be a prefabricated shape.
At present, there are still numerous the people who make efforts hoping we accomplish our most visionary and extraordinary project.
The prime minister took the opportunity of reminding the encouraging words of the President of the European Council Donald Tusk during his Tirana visit that the Albanians are perhaps more European than the others who are currently members of the EU. Tusk also emphasized that the recent recommendation of the European Commission confirmed that Albania has made great efforts and is ready to launch one of the most positive political projects.
PM Rama also said that President Emmanuel Macron of France has also a similar programme with Albania’s Urban Renaissance. The common thing between the two programmes is a greater connection with the European public space, said he.
Albania opening the EU accession negotiations would coincide with the 550th anniversary of Scanderbeg’s death, said the prime minister.
Further on, he positively assessed the European Commission for its efforts that in the end have prepared Albania for opening of the negotiations.
PM Rama emphasized that Albania demands just to open the negotiations and not to become an EU member right away because we are in the process of curing the diseases we inherited from the past so that to become healthy to enter into the EU./a.g/p.s./
