PM Rama: National team together with opposition on integration

TIRANA, April 18/ATA/-The historic chapter we closed yesterday has left its place to an even more difficult historic chapter, stated on Wednesday Prime Minister Edi Rama calling for a national team under the red and black flannel shirt together with the opposition on the integration issue.

Following the European Commission’s recommendation for Albania opening EU accession negotiations, PM Rama met today the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini who is on an official visit to Albania.

During a joint press conference after the meeting, PM Rama expressed grateful thanks to the Foreign Policy Chief of the united Europe for her commitment and support to Albania during the process.

“The achievement of the long-awaited result of Albania getting the European Commission’s recommendation for opening EU accession negotiations is directly connected with Mogherini’s hard work for building the bridge between the EU and the Western Balkans”, said PM Rama.

Thanks to this strenuous effort, according to PM Rama, our region and Albania have taken important steps forward.

“We all need true friends in Europe, open to us, who know our history, understand our difficulties and significance for the incomplete project of the United Europe, to fairly assess our efforts on the way toward European state-building in our countries and have the wish and will to support and strongly advocate for us when we are not there”, said further the prime minister.

During this unfavourable time of EU enlargement, according to PM Rama, sceptical people and forces to policy of enlargement, do not hesitate to use us as cannon fodder of their closed-door policy and internal interests.

“I would plead today to the opposition not as a prime minister or as Socialist Party chairman, but as an Albanian, a citizen and colleague against it collaborating with any foreign political factor that for its own internal interests will hamper Albania in this process. I also call on the opposition not to nourish different offices with lies and not to export the mud of the domestic political struggle, but leave aside the ill-will and rage when speaking in a foreign language”, said PM Rama.

The prime minister invited the Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha to form a national team of red and black flannels when we speak for Albania abroad and look for esteem and evaluation for the work done from those visiting us in Albania.

“Not me, the government or the Socialist Party, but Albania and the Albanians won irrespective of their party belonging. The Albanians are not separated when it’s a question of a national dream. There are a lot of people in Europe who create difficulties to Albania and put a spoke in our wheel. It is ridiculous if any Albanian joins forces like this which fortunately enough are in minority in Europe, said the prime minister.

Further on, the prime minister emphasized that Albania got what it deserved. But, now Albania has entered a new and more difficult phase, a new historic chapter in the relations between Albania and the EU. /p.s./
