Ruçi: Justice reform is yielding first results

TIRANA, March 10/ATA/- “Albania’s justice reform is yielding its results beginning with approval by consensus of the constitutional amendments and the vetting organs”, said on Saturday Speaker of the Assembly Gramoz Ruçi.

Ruçi made the statement during a meeting with a group of students from the “Haxhi Zeka” University of Peja, representatives of the Student Union, whom he received at the venues of the Assembly of Albania.

During his conversation with the students, Speaker Ruçi acquainted them with the main functions of the Assembly and the rules of procedure.

Further on, Ruçi answered to their questions on different issues among which implementation of the justice reform in Albania had the greatest interest. The Speaker said that, “There had been a long effort of two years and it was the most major, the most complete and the most important reform for giving a solution to the country’s problems with justice”.

The Speaker highlighted three main effects that the process produced. “First of all, all the judges and prosecutors have begun to ask themselves whether they are worthy of their posts or not. Secondly, 17 judges and prosecutors have declared that they refuse to accept vetting. And thirdly, the vetting organs are working and we expect results at the end of the process”, said Ruçi.

The Speaker of the Assembly and the young people also talked on other topics like cooperation between Albania and Kosovo and integration into the EU.

Ruçi expressed his confidence that Albania and Kosovo will meet their aspiration of integration into the EU and highlighted the constructive and stabilizing role of the Albanians in the region which will stimulate regional cooperation in support of this process for the future of Albania and Kosovo, but even of all the Western Balkans. /m.m/p.s./
