Rama: From meat to baby food- VAT on 54 essential items to drop from 20% to 6%

TIRANA, October 28 /ATSH/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that the government intends to reduce the VAT rate on essential food items from 20% to 6% for 54 specific products.

In a message to the public, Rama stated that this initiative aims to ease the financial burden on Albanian families, relating the move to the country’s economic growth and financial capacity.

“The first piece of good news I have today for the ordinary families of this country is that, thanks to our economic growth and increased resources, we are ready to take a step that has been long-desired and long-awaited by all ordinary families. We are reducing the VAT rate on essential food items from 20% to 6% for 54 products—including meat, fish, dairy, eggs, flour, cooking oils, sugar, pasta, fruits, vegetables and baby food.”

PM Rama added, “Through this single measure, we are putting around 150 million euros back into the pockets of Albanian families every year—money that used to go to the state through the 20% VAT.” /k.s/j.p/p.s./
