PM Rama announces 32-lek fuel price cut

TIRANA, Oct 28 /ATA/  -The government plans to remove the road circulation tax from diesel prices, lowering the pump price by 32 leks per litre, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Wednesday as he unveiled measures under the government’s 2027 fiscal package.

Rama said the move had been made possible by economic growth rather than simply reflecting the government’s intentions.

“I have left this announcement until last because it is another piece of long-awaited news for many. It is not driven by the government’s wishes, or mine, as we have always wanted this, but by economic growth,” Rama said.

The tax will instead be levied on vehicles and collected through the relevant road transport authority, he said.

The government also plans to introduce a new road tax for foreign-registered vehicles entering Albania, Rama added, saying the measure would bring the country in line with practices elsewhere in Europe.
