Bardhi: Every provision of ‘Anti-Student’ package is unconstitutional

TIRANA, Oct 25 /ATA/ Gazment Bardhi, chairman of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group, today criticised the legal amendments announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama aimed at addressing urban violence and damage caused during protests.

Bardhi accused Rama of establishing a dictatorship through the proposed legislative package.

“Edi Rama has assumed responsibility for the police violence against students and young people, while warning that he will gouge out the eyes of anyone who takes to the streets in protest. He will silence anyone, imprison anyone and impose fines on anyone,” Bardhi said in a statement.

Bardhi added that Rama was facing the student protests from a position of unprecedented weakness, seeing them as a direct threat to his hold on power and a potential risk of being brought to justice.
“None of his announced measures will be implemented. Every provision of the so-called ‘Anti-Student’ package is unconstitutional. Edi Rama is a prime minister whose political career is over. The countdown has begun. No threats will deter citizens from pursuing good governance, freedom, justice and democracy,” Bardhi said.
