Student-led protest outside Prime Minister’s Office enters 10th day

TIRANA, October 22 /ATSH/ – University lecturers and citizens have joined the students’ protest, which has now reached its tenth day.

Representatives from the “Political Dialogue” group—lecturers Ermal Hasimja and Aleksandër Biberaj—also joined the protest, which was held in front of the Parliament.

Speaking to the media, Biberaj expressed his support for the protest. “I would call upon the President of the Republic to consider the possibility of dissolving this Parliament, as it is failing to fulfill its mission,” he stated.

When asked if he was open to dialogue with PM Rama, he gave a firm “no,” emphasizing that, “Edi Rama is the absolute enemy of dialogue. We will remain in the streets until the cause of the young people is achieved. The youth will change this country.”

The “Political Dialogue” forum has called on lecturers across the country to join the initiative against the use of violence toward students.

During the gathering in front of Parliament, minor incidents broke out when a few protesters tried to tear down the security barriers, but were stopped by the police. The crowd has since moved to the Prime Minister’s Office. There, protesters toppled stone benches that Prime Minister Edi Rama had set up earlier this morning as a symbolic invitation for students to engage in dialogue.
