TIRANA, Oct. 20 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Tuesday called for dialogue with students and lecturers taking part in protests, saying he was ready to speak with anyone willing to engage in talks.
In a video posted on social media, Rama said he and his government were available to hold discussions with the protesters.
Several chairs were placed outside the prime minister’s office as a gesture of invitation. However, the protesting students and lecturers rejected the offer, throwing the chairs aside while continuing their chants against the government.
“I am available for dialogue, together with the government,” Rama said in the video.
The protesters responded with chants including “Resignation!”, “Down with the dictatorship!”, “Down with communism!” and “We don’t want dialogue!”
“So far, these are the ideas of the lecturers and intellectuals gathered down here,” Rama said, referring to the protesters’ reaction.
“Dialogue. But with whom?” Rama wrote alongside the video.
Students and lecturers continued their protest, rejecting the prime minister’s offer of talks.
