TIRANA, October 16 /ATSH/ – The National History Museum—a cornerstone of Albanian memory and identity—must not be target of attack, but deserves safeguarding,
Speaking to ATA, Director of the National History Museum Elenita Roshi made the appeal emphasizing the profound importance this institution holds for the nation and for Albanian history.
The appeal follows several attempts by protesters to target the premises of the institution.
Director Roshi underscored that The museum witnesses both the struggles and triumphs of our history, preserving the impact of events and figures that shaped the Albanian identity over centuries.
She noted that protecting and valuing this institution is vital—both to honor the past and to pass these cultural and historical values to future generations.
“Just as we have the right to hope and fight for a better Albania, we must also remember that our ancestors anchored their hope in a history that needs to be expressed, understood, and read somewhere—specifically within this very building, which must be protected,” said Roshi.
Beyond its function as an exhibition space, the museum serves as an institution of our collective memory, aiding in the recognition and understanding of historical processes.
On the eve of its 45th anniversary, the National History Museum remains a significant symbol of Albania’s historical heritage and the responsibility to safeguard it as an integral part of the national identity—ensuring that history remains accessible and comprehensible to both present and coming generations.
The National History Museum is approaching the 45th anniversary of its establishment. Inaugurated on October 28, 1981, the museum stands as a landmark for the history of Albania, presenting—through its various pavilions, artifacts, and documents—vital evidence of the country’s historical journey. /j.p/p.s./
