TIRANA, Oct. 9 /ATA-By Maela Marini/ – Albania will use the Oxford testing centre model to support recruitment and career assessments in the public administration, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Friday.
Speaking at the presentation of the “Merit Scale” initiative, the government head said the project would bring Oxford’s examination system into Albania’s Educational Services Centre, covering tests across the country’s university and education systems before extending it to public-sector recruitment and career assessments.
“This will allow us to achieve in public administration what we previously achieved in the university system,” Rama said.
He recalled that university admissions had once been marked by favouritism and a lack of respect for merit, with candidates benefiting from personal connections, political influence or money.
Rama said university examinations had since become largely free of complaints, contrasting this with the widespread allegations of unfairness before the reforms.
He said the next step was to extend the same merit-based approach to recruitment and career development across the public administration.
